Smooth and sweet milk chocolate body with hazelnut notes and a lovely dark berry and dried fruit finish from the Kenya Thuti.
Throwback was conceived as a nod to espresso’s past, a simple and traditional blend that offers a balance of rich chocolatey body and fruity aftertaste without the need for dark roasting or the use of Robusta.
The Summer 2018 edition features washed coffee from Colombia, El Salvador and Kenya. From Huila in southern Colombia, a new coffee for us from a project we’re really proud to be involved with. The Red Association (red means ‘network’ in Spanish) is a new collaborative effort between producers, exporters, importers and roasters like ourselves. We are all members of the association and on our part, by committing to buying this coffee on a regular and reliable basis, the association can invest the profits into building central infrastructure (such as drying and QC facilities) for the association that will improve the quality and value of the coffee with almost immediate effect.
From El Salvador, we have a classic washed bourbon from our old mate Joe Molina and his farm Finca Bonanza. Bonanza is located in the renowned Santa Ana region of El Salvador and this balanced, juicy coffee lends a classic Central American profile to the blend.
Finally, from Kenya we have a small sprinkling of AA grade beans from the Thuti Coffee Factory, one of the washing stations run by the Othaya Farmers Co-operative in Nyeri region. This is a super juicy AA lot that adds a lovely blackcurrant acidity to the finish in the cup and carries sweetness even through larger servings of milk.
In the cup these coffees combine for a classic espresso style that is balanced and sweet, easy to work with and particularly suited to milk drinks.
