Blue Note is the perfect everyday filter coffee; easy drinking and suited to all batch and hand brewers. This latest edition is made up of washed coffees from Guatemala and Ethiopia.
From Guatemala, ‘La Cuchilla’ is a micro-lot we have been buying for four years from Aurelio Villatoro’s renowned farm, Finca Villaure, in the Huehuetenango region. Huehue, as it is colloquially known, is located in the northeast of Guatemala close to the border with Mexico and is renowned for producing the fruitiest and most complex coffees in the country.
From Ethiopia, the Edido washing station is located in the famous Yirgacheffe region of southern Ethiopia. Nearly all coffee from Ethiopia has to be sold through the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX) and is mostly sold only by grade and region. In recent years, the ECX has started to allow more flexibility around traceability in the Exchange which means that even though this coffee was purchased by our importer through the ECX auction, we have some knowledge of where exactly it comes from. Edido is managed by Abdulmejid Jibril and represents the coffee of 650 smallholder families in the region.
Finally, from Guatemala again we have a small amount of the famous Geisha variety from Finca San Jeronimo Miramar in Atitlan region. Geisha is perhaps the most expensive coffee variety on the planet due to its exceptional cup profile and low yielding trees. While it is not normal to use geisha in a blend like this, we love to use a small percentage in the blend to boost the acidity, complexity and sweetness of the blend- like sprinkling a little salt on to a finished dish!
