BARISTA TRAINING

The Small Batch Coffee Training Lab is located in the underground bank vault at our Seven Dials Store. It is fully equipped to train your baristas in the fine art of coffee making.

Our dedicated in-house trainer, Laura, runs daily full and half day courses for Small Batch staff, wholesale customers and home coffee enthusiasts.

SCAE ACCREDITATION
We're a registered member of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, and two of our courses on offer are SCAE accredited. See below for more detailed information on each course.

Course overview:

  • A basic, practical introduction to espresso and milk.
  • A look at the process for preparing a good espresso.
  • Using an espresso machine and calibrating a grinder.
  • Milk preparation: steaming and pouring.
  • Basic equipment care and cleaning.

Course overview:

  • An introduction to basic Latte Art techniques.
  • Perfecting your steaming technique.
  • Using alternative milks such as soya, almond etc.
SCAE BARISTA SKILLS FOUNDATIONRead more (SCAE accredited)

£200 (+ £60 certification) 1 day (6 hours)

SCAECourse overview:

  • An introduction for the professional baristas.
  • Basic coffee knowledge, espresso preparation, hygiene and machine care.
  • Fully SCAE accredited run by a licensed AST.
  • Counts toward SCAE Coffee diploma.
SCAE BARISTA SKILLS INTERMEDIATERead more (SCAE accredited)

2 days £400 (+ £100 certificate fee SCAE members, £180 certificate fee non SCAE members)

SCAECourse overview:

  • Builds on the foundation course to include more advanced espresso technique and theory sensory skills and more advanced milk techniques.
  • Fully SCAE accredited run by a licensed AST.
  • Counts toward SCAE Coffee diploma.
  • Prior experience or training is necessary.
SCAE BARISTA SKILLS PROFESSIONALRead more (SCAE accredited)

3 days £900 (+£180 fee SCAE members, £270 certificate fee non members)

SCAECourse overview:

  • Builds on the intermediate course to include advanced techniques, scientific theory and managerial perspectives.
  • Fully SCAE accredited run by a licensed AST.
  • Counts toward SCAE Coffee diploma.
  • Prior experience or training is necessary.
SCAE BREWING SKILLS FOUNDATIONRead more (SCAE accredited) (all SCAE accredited)

1 day (6 hours) £200 (+ £60 certification)

SCAECourse overview:

  • An introduction to brewing filter coffee for the professional barista.
  • Introduces a beginner to different ways of brewing, from Chemex and siphon to clever dripper and cafetiere.
  • Fully SCAE accredited run by a licensed AST.
  • Counts toward SCAE Coffee diploma.
